Shutdown Checklist

After a fun night of observering, do the following to properly stow and shutdown all the equipment.

1. Recenter the RA and Dec Tangent Arms if necessary by using the RA and Dec Slow Motion switches.
2. Turn off Telrad.
3. Turn off Setting Circle lights.
4. Turn on the White dome lights.
5. Turn off the Red dome lights.
6. Turn off the Control Box Panel light.
7. Turn off Oscillator and ALTEC amplifier.
8. Unclamp RA and Dec clamps.
9. Move telescope to the Park position (HA = 0:00, Dec at south stop).
10. Engage the RA and Dec clamps.
11. Close the Primary Mirror Cover. Be careful to not touch the mirror surface while following the linked procedure.
12. Cover the Secondary Mirror with its cover, making sure the blue arrow is up and pushing the cover straight on.
13. Rotate dome so it is pointing west at its parked position with markers aligned.
14. Close the dome shutter.
15. Make sure dome shutter ropes are tied off, right shutter rope to left cleat, and left shutter rope to right cleat.
16. Lock the dome shutter by pulling down on red shutter lock handle.
17. Stow shutter lock handles in clip on right dome shutter.
18. Make an entry in the Tauchmann log book (Figure 1), including what you observed, your initials, and other operational notes you wish to add. If there are any troubles that need immediate fixing (e.g. the dome won't close) call the Shane Telescope operator at 8-0652. If no one answers, phone the Dome Mechanician, Shane Telescope Operator, or Support Astronomer. Non-urgent repair reports can be made via email to mh-techs@ucolick.org.
19. Unfold the tarps and position over telescope and desk. Make sure the smaller white tarp covers the eyepieces, finder scopes, and primary mirror cell and should be under the larger tarp that covers the whole telescope.
20. Remove safety railing and open dome floor hatch.
21. Once everyone is down the stairs, carefully close the hatch.
22. In store room turn off the following:
    1. All Circuit Breakers
    2. Light switch
    3. Master switch
23. Turn off white dome light.
24. Exit building, making sure door is fully closed (this can be diffcult and may take some force) and locked.
25. Lock padlock.
26. Go get some sleep after a fun night of observing!
