Finder Scope and Telrad

Finder Scope | Telrad

Finder Scope

The finder scope (Figures 1 and 2) is mounted on top of the telescope tube and has a wide field of view to facilitate acquisition of targets. The finder scope is small Celestron telescope and accepts 1.25" diameter eyepieces and has a focus mechanism. The alignment of the finder scope drifts with time and temperature, so once the object is aligned in the widefield eyepiece, one can note the offsest from center so that subsequent field acquisitions will be easier. Do not adjust the alignment of the finder scope.

Telrad

A TelRad finder has also been mounted next to the finder scope. The target is illuminated by a battery powered light. The power switch for the light is on the underside of the Telrad (Figure 3). Please remember to turn off the light when not in use and at the end of the observing session to preserve the lifetime its batteries.
