End of Night | End of Run

End of Night Shutdown Procedure

  1. If LGS mode, do the following:
    1. Use lgsStatusReports.tcl to email Quick Look Report to Space Command Laser Clearinghouse within 15 minutes of laser operations end. Fill in appropriate laser operations start and stop times and update assessment message if necessary. If you need to update the operations assessment message from the default, you will probably have to fill in LOAP reports -- contact Elinor Gates ASAP for details and this will likely affect or prevent laser operations for days.
    2. Call FAA (916-366-4080) to notify LGS operations complete.
    3. Close lsm.tcl window(s).
    4. Close laserOffload.tcl window.
    5. In Shane line lamp control (slinelamp_fe) GUI: Set Spare2 to Off.
    6. In xterm, re-enable timer for slinelamp power outlets: modify -s slinelamp LLPTEN=on.
    7. In saoWFSFocusTrack.tcl GUI: Disable WFSFocus Track.
    8. In ShaneAO loop control GUI: Ensure Uplink set to OFF.
    9. In ShaneAO motor control GUI: Ensure Sodium filter set to Out (requires Uplink OFF).
  2. Ensure TUB = 74.0 degrees.
  3. Run /u/user/observers/lgs/scripts/daily_shutdown.tcl

End of Run Shutdown Procedure

  1. Do the End of Night Shutdown procedure above.
  2. If LGS exit the following GUIs (if not already quitted):
    1. saoWFSFocusTrack.tcl
    2. laserOffload.tcl
    3. LSM.tcl
  3. In fieldsteer.tcl GUI: Select QUIT
  4. Exit Peeko:
    1. Locate the terminal labelled Peeko.
    2. Place cursor in this window to make it the active window.
    3. Hit return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
    4. At the python prompt, type exit().
  5. Exit TTPeeko:
    1. Locate the terminal labelled TTPeeko.
    2. Place cursor in this window to make it the active window.
    3. Hit return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
    4. At the python prompt, type exit().
  6. In ShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) (main SAO GUI): Select File.., Exit...
  7. Exit saomon_gui GUI.
  8. Exit saomot_gui GUI.
  9. Exit scriptproc.tcl GUI.
  10. Make sure Darks are Started on ShARCS before continuing.
  11. Exit the shaneao real-time code:
    1. Locate the terminal labelled shaneao.
    2. Place cursor in this window to make it the active window.
    3. Hit return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
    4. At the python prompt, type exit(). This stops the underlying shaneao software process(es).
  12. Locate the terminal window with the frame banner titled Messages. Place cursor to make this the active window, hit Cntrl+C to exit the message log on real.
  13. Exit saowheels_gui GUI (sharcs filter wheels).
  14. Make sure Darks are Completed on ShARCS before continuing.
  15. Exit sharcs_fe GUI (sharcs data taker).
  16. Exit sharcsdisplay GUI (Quit is in the Imbrowser GUI).
  17. Exit eventsounds GUI.
  18. Remotely login to stealthie and stop sharcs servers (procedure is listed in the ShARCS startup document, summary of steps below).
    1. In an xterm window, issue the command: ssh -Y user@covert
    2. As user@covert, at the prompt, issue the command: rdesktop stealthie
    3. A connection to the windows machine named stealthie should appear. Leave the password field for user vacant when requested for login credentials.
    4. After access, there should be 2 processes running, which are minimized at the bottom of the rdesktop session.
    5. Double-click minimized Cold Sidecar to access the process interface.
    6. Do ctrl-c in the Cold Sidecar window. After a brief moment, process interface should collapse.
    7. Double-click minimized Sidecar ASIC to access procees interface.
    8. In the Sidecar ASIC window click on the red square icon to Stop HAL.
    9. Click the X in the window manager to close the Sidecar ASIC window. When prompted if you want to save, click No.
    10. Shutdown stealthie:
      1. Click on Start
      2. Click Run...
      3. Type shutdown -s in the entry box and execute the command.
    11. Exit the rdesktop session by closing the window.
  19. Run /u/user/observers/lgs/scripts/end_run_shutdown.tcl
  20. Exit saopower_ui GUI.
  21. Exit sharcspump_gui (sharcs pressure and temperature monitor).
  22. Shutdown any remaining software in the VNCs (e.g. guider copy, web browsers, aopococ, sdiagmir_fe, etc.).
  23. Notify mh-techs@ucolick.org that ShaneAO is ready for removal from telescope.
  24. Do the following only when ready to immediately remove the instrument from the telescope.
  25. Disconnect ethernet, power, and laser uplink cables from SAO.
  26. Remove SAO from telescope.
